The Mental Health First Aid in a similar way to First Aid will help to give you skills so that you are more confident to support someone until they get professional help or until their emotional crisis resolves. Completing this course enables you to gain insight into some mental health problems and services available.

  • This course will help you to gain the confidence and communication skills to:

  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of mental health problems.

  • Support someone to find effective help.

  • Respond to suicidal thoughts and behaviours.

  • Have appropriate boundaries & self care for yourself .

  • Remember recovery is possible and your support in recognising someone needs help can make all the difference to a person in need.

  • The course is run online and face-to-face for the public.

  • It is also run in-house for organisations.

Course Delivery

This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

  • Course Length: Course Duration:

    Onsite training at your location for groups starting at 4 people minimum to maximum 25.

    Perfect for Individuals. Online option with face-to-face assessment. 4 hours self-paced study with 8 hours face-to-face practical assessment.

  • Entry requirements: Participants must have the capacity to read, write and use appropriate behavior to identify a crisis situation.

    Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet, or other electronic devices with access to the internet to complete the online theory assessment.

  • Assessment requirements: Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

  • There is no certificate for this course.

  • Please note that enrolment to this course is made with Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO 90909. Please refer to the student handbook located on the RTO website allenstraining.com.au student-handbook for all details relating to rights and responsibilities including complaints and appeals.

  • Assessments conducted during face-to-face training session(s) include:

    Assessment activities:

    • Performance tasks: (on three occasions)

    • Identify imminent crisis situations

    • Address immediate safety concerns

    • Apply crisis intervention activities

    • Provide referral for crisis intervention support

    • Participate in a debrief

    • Documentation – Completion of an Incident Report. Case studies - A written assessment consisting of two (2) case studies.

    • Post-course theory assessment - Students must complete the assessment questions in their student portal.

    Theory assessment - A written assessment consisting of multiple choice and short answer questions. All questions must be completed.
